Eating Like Our Ancestors Toolkit

The purpose of this study is to collect Cheyenne River elders' traditional recipes and stories to create a toolkit that increases knowledge and consumption of these recipes across all ages. This toolkit is based on recipes and stories shared by interviewed elders, with help from the youth in media creation, illustrations, and promotion.

This book is dedicated to those who were raised with the knowledge of traditional foods, as well as those who weren’t fortunate enough to inherit these teachings. It’s for both the traditional and non-traditional extended tiošpaye (family), and for anyone eager to delve into the rich world of traditional Lakota foods.

We hope you enjoy this toolkit as much as we did in creating it and look forward to hearing your feedback!
