Jennie is holding her youngest son, Sylvester Garreau. Jennie survived Wounded Knee Massacre, in December 1890, fleeing through a winter storm. Upon the first shots, Jennie fled on horseback with her infant son in his cradle board. They ran until the horse was too exhausted to continue. Jennie's son on the cradle board was shot as they escaped, saving her life. At the massacre, her husband and two children perished. Later in her life, she met and married William Garreau, father of Sylvester, her youngest child. Jennie died in 1917, at the age of 48.
